The French Embassy opens the door for candidacy for scholarships for a master's degree for the academic year 2022-2023 within the framework of the "Rafaa Tahtawy" program.
Application conditions
The applicant must be Egyptian (Egyptian-French holders are not eligible to apply for the scholarship)
Study project: The scholarship applicant must have submitted his papers to join a French higher education institution in France to complete the second year of a master’s degree.
The applicant must have an Egyptian higher education university degree or a French higher education degree in Egypt, or be in his last academic year of university and in the process of obtaining an Egyptian bachelor’s or his French certificate after the expiry of a minimum of four university years.
Candidates for the scholarship must submit a certificate of their English and/or French language level. The allowed certificates are:
a - DELF, DALF, TCF, IELTS, TOEIC, B2 level with a minimum.
b - Or a high school diploma: Bac français, IGCSE, IB, General Education Development Test (GED), Graduate Assessment Test (GRE), or SAT.
C - or a certificate from the university stating that the language of study is French or English or both.
The Tahtawy scholarship is not directed to anyone who wishes to register for a distance study or to enroll in dual curricula in which study alternates with training.
Submission period:Scholarship Features
The Tahtawy Scholarship provided by the French government gives the recipient the right to:
A monthly allowance of 700 euros for the duration of the study, provided that it does not exceed ten months, including training.
Exemption from administrative and private registration fees, provided that the study is in a French public educational institution, with a maximum of 5,000 euros.
- Assisting the grantee in booking accommodation in university housing.
- Taking care of social security and health insurance.
Selection criteria according to the degree of importance:
Excellence in university results.
The quality of the academic and professional project and its consistency with the previous study.
The candidate’s experiences outside the university domain in terms of training, jobs, participation in associations, sports or the arts.
The quality of the candidate’s file in writing, presentation and format.
Priority is given to students traveling to study for the first time.
- The field of the candidate for the scholarship, that is, if the percentage of representation of a specialty is not large compared to the specialties of other candidates, it will be given priority.
Grant cancellation
The embassy reserves the right to cancel the scholarship even after giving the recipient a signed certificate acknowledging its award in the following cases:
Not accepting the grantee in any of the universities that he applied to join.
Not obtaining a travel visa or the presence of force majeure circumstances that prevented the completion of travel and transfers.
Obtaining more than one grant from the French government at the same time.
- If the embassy notices that one of the aforementioned conditions has been violated.
Procedures for applying for a grant
First Step: Choose one or more studies to continue the second year of a master’s degree in France and apply for it
Before applying for the Tahtawy scholarship, it is necessary to apply for a study to continue the second year of the master’s degree in France
There are two options available:
- Either apply for a study through the “ Etudes en France ” platform.

Third Step: Prepare and compile documents
The following documents must be combined and put together in one pdf file and address your file as follows : Tahtawi2022 - Candidate ’s surname - Name A clear photocopy of the valid passport (identity page). A curriculum vitae, max. one page, written in French or English. Letter of motivation, with a quick description of the studies project: max. 1 page, 12 fonts, font type Time news roman and edited in the same language as the CV. A copy of the secondary school certificate transcript (high school diploma, bac français or other). A clear photocopy of the transcripts of all university years (bachelor's) with a translation in French or English if the original statement is in Arabic.
A clear photocopy of the last certificate obtained with translation in French or English if the original certificate is in Arabic
language level certificate (French or English), the allowed certificates:
• Whether DELF/DALF for French or TOEIC/TOEFL/ IELTS for English.
• A French baccalaureate or IGCSE, or IB, or SAT test or other.
• Whether a certificate from the university stating that the study was in one or both of these two languages.
• A certificate indicating your candidacy and then your acceptance in the second year of a master's degree at a French university.
• The first case: the application through the "Etudes en France - Studies in France" platform, and then submitting the file number of the studies in France, for example EG20-xxxx
• The second case: the application through direct communication with the university, and then attaching the document of receipt of the nomination file before The receiving university institution and the final acceptance certificate (once you have it). In the event that the acceptance document is not available at the time of applying for the scholarship, you can attach a photo, a screenshot, or an email photo that the university has received your application for admission and a decision on your candidacy.

Important information :
The Tahtawy Scholarship is for candidates registered in the second year of a master's degree and who are obligated to continue their studies in France. The candidate can continue to receive the scholarship during his training period only if the master’s curriculum requires training to complete the study and provided that his period does not exceed the ten months of the scholarship starting from the date of the start of the scholarship.
The grant cannot be obtained for the purpose of conducting training only.
- The scholarship only covers the mandatory minimum period of training stipulated in the syllabus.
- The grant is given for a maximum period of ten months, which includes study and the minimum compulsory period of training, and any extension of the training period is on the grantee’s own expenses.
The scholarship does not cover travel and flight costs.
Recipients of the Tahtawy Scholarship are not entitled to apply for a second time, as it is only granted once.
