𝗕𝗶𝗼: Hani Serag, MD, MPH, is a physician and public health researcher, currently serving as Director of the Division of Global Partnerships at the University of Texas Medical Branch (UTMB) in Galveston. He holds academic appointments as an Associate Professor in the Department of Population Health and Health Disparities at the School of Public and Population Health, as well as in the Departments of Internal Medicine – Division of Endocrinology – and Pediatrics at the John Sealy School of Medicine, UTMB.
Dr. Serag’s research, teaching, and public health practice focus on health system policy, health equity, the social determinants of health, lifestyle medicine, implementation science, and community empowerment through a rights-based approach. He brings extensive cross-cultural and cross-sector experience, with a particular emphasis on enhancing the responsiveness of health systems. His current work integrates preventive strategies for chronic disease management into clinical practice. He serves as Principal Investigator for the “Patient Education Program” and Project Director for “HIV Routine Screening,” both funded through multiple federal and state grants.
Over the past two decades, Dr. Serag has contributed to the design and methodology of numerous qualitative and quantitative research initiatives, including national surveys and international comparative studies. He has led and contributed to over 30 training programs in public and global health, with a focus on health systems research and capacity building for non-profit sector professionals. In addition to academic and programmatic leadership, he has successfully spearheaded fundraising and resource mobilization efforts for several organizations over the last ten years.
