The department aims to provide the graduate with the basic information necessary to participate effectively in the medical care team, and have the ability and skills to know the mechanisms of action and use of the drug as well as determining the dosage and knowledge of drug interactions, drug kinetics in the body, side effects and toxicity of drugs and chemicals as well as prevention and treatment of poisoning cases

The study began at the Faculty of Pharmacy by accepting the first class in the academic year 1970/1971, and their number was 48 male and female students. The Deputy Prime Minister for Culture and Information issued Decree No. 134 of 1973 to separate the departments of pharmacy from the Faculty of Medicine to become an independent faculty. The first class graduated from the college in the academic year 1975, and there were 105 male and female students
