Natural products have been relied on by man since ancient times, and modern man cannot dispense with them or live without them - who among us can live without bread, which is a natural starch substance and because of it, food crises are exacerbated with wars. The various vegetables and plants that humans eat are full of antioxidants, anti-inflammatories, vitamins, and natural minerals among others that protect us from many diseases without us feeling it. Natural products are used by all researchers either by themselves to discover new drugs or by re-synthesizing them and synthesizing their derivatives to reach the best compounds and derivatives to treat a specific disease or to eliminate a certain microbe. It suffices that between 25-30% of the medicines on the pharmaceutical market are natural products such as nutritional supplements, many antibiotics, collagen, silymarin, solutions, drugs, and many others. In the Pharmacognosy Department, we teach all categories of students what natural products are and we conduct scientific research on the sources of natural products to find new compounds that have a beneficial biological effect on humans. The Pharmacognosy Department aims to contribute to improving public health by providing the country with distinguished cadres of pharmacists, who contribute to the application of the scientific and research method based on evidence in the study and exploitation of medicines derived from natural sources (terrestrial and marine plants - animals - microorganisms - marine sources and others), that are compatible with the nature of society and its needs, and provide an advanced research environment that leads researchers to take advantage of natural resources.
